Heidi Emmerling, R.D.H., Ph.D.

I am Assistant Professor of Dental Hygiene at
my very own Dental Hygiene alma mater,
Sacramento City College.  It is a thrill to be
back "home" after 21 years of private practice,
teaching, and graduate school (University of
Nevada Reno) where I received my PhD in
composition and rhetoric.

I am a former lecturer for the
Writing Program
at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
I taught all levels of composition but my main
course was 109HP, Writing for Health
Professionals, a senior-level course designed to
prepare health professionals for the types of
writing they may encounter in their careers.
My 21+ years as a licensed dental hygienist, 11
years college teaching, and a PhD in
Composition and Rhetoric prepared me well for
this position.  I still keep my RDH license active
in California and Nevada.

I am also the owner of
Writing Cures, a service
designed to meet the custom writing
requirements of both individuals and
businesses. I enjoy empowering people
through knowledge of the writing process.  I
also strongly believe in the therapeutic effects
of writing and journaling.

Having published numerous professional,
academic, and consumer articles, I continue to
edit
Workplace Solutions, a monthly newsletter
for
Mountain Employee Assistance Program
that goes out to 20,000+ readers.
