Guidelines

  1. Pick a Paper that was written for a specific audience that you think you can revise to a different audience.  For example, I wrote a piece on tattooing and piercing for a health magazine and re-wrote it for Penthouse.
  2. Select a magazine with a non-overlapping audience that accepts reprints .  Even if it never gets published, this selection will help you on the aspect of audience and revising for said audience, purpose, and differing guidelines. Name the original audience, the new magazine and requirements.
  3. Size up your new audience with respect to expectations, likes, dislikes, attitudes, and so forth.  You should do some research on your audience/publication.
  4. Write a draft of 1200 words.  Your re-write should contain the same basic information  but presented for your new audience.  You might have to do a minor bit of new research that would interest your new audience.
  5. Revise. Final draft should be 1200-1300 words or according to editorial guidelines.
